In Convention No. 177, ILO defines remote work as that performed by a person from their home or other premises of their choice, other than the employer’s premises. The position paper, entitled “Working from Home: From Invisibility to Decent Work,” stated that governments must ensure that workers online are provided with all the conditions of decent work.
The report highlighted the crucial role of trade unions and employers’ organisations through awareness campaigns and participation in collective bargaining, especially as the growth of home-based work is expected to continue in the coming years.
