n a statement of solidarity, the General Federation of Jordanian Trade Unions (GFJTU) announced, on December 13 that “the General Federation of Jordanian Trade Unions, and all the trade unions affiliated with it, announce their support for the Syndicate of Construction Workers of the Jordanian Company for Cement Factories (Lafarge) who continue their legitimate protest to receive their demands and defend their labour rights.”
The company’s administration rejected dialogue with the workers’ representatives, creating more tension by delaying negotiating the workers’ rights and harming them by denying them their legitimate rights and encouraging exploitation of workers in the country.
The GFJTU denounces the company’s refusal to pay the salaries of October and September and the deducted days of September and considers it as a violation of their rights and the agreements reached on the end of work compensation.
According to the head of the Syndicate of Construction Workers, Mahmoud Al-Hiyari: “The company’s administration violated the collective agreements that were signed between the two parties, and were duly published in the Official Gazette, the decisions of the Jordanian courts, and the laws. The trade union, representing workers in all economic sectors, supports the construction workers’ syndicate. All trade unions support the syndicate and the workers’ legitimate cause.”
