Lebanon: Trade unions of workers and users of oil seek real solutions

The administration bodies of the trade unions of workers and users of oil in El-Zahrani announced an emergency meeting with the Minister of Energy and Water and his advisors, and the Director General of Oil. In the meeting, trade unions in Tripoli and El-Zahrani addressed the deteriorating economic situation of workers. Therefore, users should be given a monthly financial assistance.

After claiming that the administration has been postponing finding concrete solutions, the public bodies decided to propose a deadline by 17 December for implementing the decision. If their demands will be ignored, the executive councils will suspend work and stop the delivery of fuels from oil installations despite the sector’s vital role.

The trade unions hoped the authorities will respond to their demands. They stated that they do not intend to escalate the protests, but rather hope for a response to the request of the Director General of Oil and approve the proposal regarding economic assistance to achieve social justice for workers.
