On Sunday, the Palestinian General Federation of Trade Unions (PGFTU) signed a joint agreement with the Ministry of Transport and the Ministry of Women’s Affairs. The agreement aims at integrating women in the transport and communications sector, during the conference against economic violence and the Convention n.190 to combat violence and harassment.
The PGFTU Secretary-General, Shaher Saad, confirmed that the event is the first agreement in all economic sectors supporting women’s rights.
Saad claimed that the conference encourages implementing the minimum wage, which will be in force at the beginning of the new year (2022). He said that all women’s committees in all the governorates of the country have been informed that the minimum wage is the lowest in Palestine. He, also, added that PGFTU supports social justice and women’s rights.
Minister of Transport, Assem Salem, stressed that signing the agreement with the federation and the Ministry of Women is a unique initiative for the Ministry of Transport. He, also, addressed the importance of women’s participation in the sector, especially with the creation of work committees with the Ministry of Women and the Federation.
