Lebanon: EDL workers and employees launch a 3-day strike

The Syndicate of Workers and Users of the Electricité du Liban (EDL) has committed to a three-day strike from 9 until 11 December, due to the indifference of the Prime Minister and the Minister of Energy and Water to the trade union and the workers’ protests, not attending the sessions, and not receiving and delivering fuel, including unloading ships.

The syndicate issued in a statement that it “will not tolerate and will not allow the expansion of the powers of service provider companies, after what happened in the past years to the workers from these companies at the expense of workers, employees, the institution, and citizens alike.”

All this led to an increase in the size of the financial burdens resulting from the continuation of EDL to give advance financial payments to service provider companies outside the contractual framework.
