Madar News released the latest statistics of work accident victims in occupied Palestine for the current year, which amounted to 64 victims, 34 in the construction sector in the 48 and West Bank regions. It resulted mainly from the lack of safety measures and security systems from contractors and construction institutions.
The percentage of Arab victims reached about 80% in the agricultural, commercial, and industrial sectors, and reached 100% in the construction sector. This number constitutes 54% of the total victims of work accidents in occupied Palestine.
It is clear that negligence, unsafe work environment, and discrimination are the main causes of these accidents. The newspaper called for fighting work accidents and appointing an assistant to the director of work in the construction workshop whose mission will be to follow up on the strict application of safety measures and to place observers to monitor 15,000 workshops.
Financial fines were imposed on contractors and the closure of construction workshops involved in work accidents, as 200 construction workshops have been closed so far.
