An escalation in protests in many sectors is taking place in Tunisia. The wave of protests is becoming more severe and includes open strikes, hunger strikes, and disruption of production.
Many protestors went further by having tents in the headquarters of the governorate of Kairouan and the Environment, Planters, and Gardening Company after not being paid for three months. Security services of the area used tear gas to disperse the protesters, which led to the escalation of the protests.
According to a media statement by the General Secretary of the Syndicate of Horticulture Workers, Hadi Lahmar, the protests in the entrances of the governorate and the prevention of employees from entering their workplace coincide with the organization of the regional council on the failure to implement the agreements reached during the session that was held on November 15. The agreements include paying the workers within a week and holding a session in the Ministry of Industry to solve the remaining problems related to the Environment, Plants, and Horticulture Company.
