Lebanon: Syndicate of Importers of Foodstuff, Consumer Products & Drinks in Lebanon urges issuing the ration card

Syndicate of Importers of Foodstuff, Consumer Products & Drinks in Lebanon warns against the deteriorating food security in the country and urges issuing the ration card. The syndicate said in a statement that the current crisis results from the collapse in the exchange rate of the lira against the dollar. It warns that the Lebanese in light of the crisis will not be able to provide food.

The syndicate claimed that the ration card will enable providing basic food needs. The government suggested giving $25 to every family member (without exceeding $126 for the whole family). In order to obtain the card, a permit from the head of the family is required to lift the bank secrecy from the family, to verify the conformity of its circumstances with the conditions for benefiting from the card.

It is worth noting that the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) showed last September that 74% of the population is under the poverty line.
