Tamkeen Centre for Legal Aid and Human Rights conducted a new study entitled “The Right to Resign for Migrant Workers.” The study shows violations of workers’ rights including their inability to resign.
The study denounces the use of the term “fugitive.” The term is used for criminals and implies, therefore, that the worker (especially domestic workers) is forced to work and has no rights. Migrant workers cannot receive their dues from social insurance only after the employer’s acceptance.
The study suggests conforming to the 1990 International Convention on the Protection of the Rights of All Migrant Workers and Members of their Families and C189 – Domestic Workers Convention and revising the labour regulations and instructions, to limit the employer’s authority and give migrant workers the right to resign and the right to choose the employer.
