The hashtags #No_to_the_dissolution_of_the_union and #Anticonstitutional_Dissolution were ranked the most popular on Twitter in Jordan, as part of the solidarity campaign with the Teachers’ Trade Union called for by the trade union council on Saturday.
Jordanian internet users called for putting an end to the measures taken against the union and its members and denounced the arrests and unfair dismissals of teachers.
The Deputy General Secretary of Education International, David Edwards, expressed the solidarity of the world’s teachers with the union. On the occasion of World Teachers’ Day, David Edwards denounced the oppression against the trade union and its members.
The Jordanian Teachers’ Union was dissolved by the government after its members demanded a salary increase that had previously been approved by the authorities. These increases were suspended in May 2020 under the Defence Law, which was enacted to address the economic impact of the health crisis.
