The Regional Director for the Arab States at the International Labour Organisation (ILO), Ruba Jaradat, has announced that the organisation has set up a support programme for Palestine that will be funded at the donors’ meeting to be held in Geneva in March 2022.
The announcement was made during his speech on Monday at the opening of the preliminary donors’ meeting to support the Palestinian Employment Fund, organised by the ILO in the 47th Session of the Arab Labour Conference. The meeting reviewed the national employment strategy and the financial resources needed.
Ruba Jaradat presented the situation of the Palestinian labour market in light of the pandemic, stressing that several economic sectors have been greatly impacted, resulting in a contraction of GDP and the loss of 161,000 jobs.
