The workers of 174 private institutions in Sfax participated in a general strike on October 28, this year, called for by the Sfax Regional Labour Union.
This strike was decided to protest against the refusal of the Tunisian Confederation of Industry, Trade, and Handicrafts (UTICA) to resume regional social negotiations and the 2020 agreement on salary increase and the increase in the value of grades in the private sector. Negotiations have been disrupted during the pandemic.
UTICA considered the country’s current conditions unsuitable for a salary increase and other demands. The organization believes that these demands will only be difficult for the private institutions and will lead to higher prices and inflation.
