Egypt: The Chemical Industries Development Company decides to resume its activities

The Chemical Industries Development Company has decided to resume its activities after the decision to freeze was approved by the Ministry of Public Works.

The Centre for Trade Unions and Workers Services (CTUWS) reported that following an agreement with the General Trade Union of Chemicals, the Holding Company for Pharmaceutical Products decided to resume its activities on 24 October.

The agreement did not, however, mention the workers’ demand for the payment of their share of the profits according to their productivity, which contributed to the company’s increased earnings (65 million pounds for the current year).

The campaign for the defence of trade union freedoms and workers’ rights has called for the prosecution of those responsible for the decision to freeze the company’s activities, stressing that this closure has had a major impact on the workers and the company.

The decision to close the company was taken after the workers’ protests to demand an increase in their share of the company’s profits.
