Jordan: The period for regularising the status of foreign workers ends

The period offered to irregular migrants to regularize their status ended on 2 September. The Jordanian Ministry of Labour announced that about 90,000 foreign workers, mostly Egyptians, have regularised their situation before the expiry of the legal period.

The ministry said that the authorities have organised several campaigns to encourage workers to apply for or renew their work permits and that, from now on, inspectors, accompanied by public security agents, will carry out visits to deport illegal workers.

It is worth noting that around 300,000 migrants of different nationalities work ‘legally’ in Jordan, while more than 400,000 are in an irregular situation.
