The Saudi authorities considers it a violation of the residence and work regulations by a migrant worker in its territory, by having independent work for their own account, and that it is a crime punishable by law.
The General Directorate of Passports in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia recently published, on its official Twitter account, that a self-employed migrant worker in Saudi Arabia in 2021 (such as a driver working for their own account, for example) is considered a violation and hence the worker will be subject to penalties.
The penalties were set with a fine of 50,000 riyals, imprisonment for a period of up to 6 months, or deportation.
The immigration system in Saudi Arabia prohibits the employer from allowing the worker to work on their own account.
