Jordan: Three categories of Egyptian workers are prohibited from work in Jordan

Jordan announced the beginning of the recruitment of migrant workers in the agricultural sector for a period of six months, starting from February 21, 2021. The Jordanian authorities, however, set an exception that prevents three types of agricultural workers from co work in Jordan—shepherds, private farm workers, and agricultural workers with academic or professional diplomas.

The Ministry of Labour requires the status of ‘agricultural worker’ in the passport for foreign workers.

The Ministry, also, prohibited migrant workers change to other sectors. Migrant workers are allowed to change from one employer to another. However, the option of changing from one sector to another is limited.

The new regulations aim at organizing the sector. More than 70,000 out of 100,000 workers with agricultural work permits have moved to other economic sectors.
