Lebanon: 120,000 migrant workers in dire need of humanitarian aid

The International Organization for Migration (IOM) announced that about 120,000 migrant workers out of 210,000 living in Lebanon are in dire need of humanitarian assistance.

In a report issued on August 10, the organization stated that more than half of migrant workers are unemployed due to the economic crisis in the country, which became worse after the sanitary crisis and the Beirut port explosion.

The head of the IOM office in Lebanon, Matteo Luciano, stated that “these migrant workers have lost their jobs, are hungry, do not have access to medical care, and do not feel safe.” He added that many of them are desperate and would like to leave the country, but they do not have the means to do so.

In the light of the current crisis, the United Nations and other NGOs prepared an emergency response plan for the urgent humanitarian needs of the Lebanese and migrants in Lebanon.
