ATUC: New study on the inclusion of foreign domestic workers in Jordan in the social security system

The Arab Trade Union Confederation (ATUC) issued a study entitled “Inclusion of foreign domestic workers in the social security system in Jordan: Reality and scenarios.”

The study addressed the mandatory participation of domestic workers in the social security system for all workers with a residence permit. The goal is to register all domestic workers in the social security system by not leaving it optional.

The study recommended making the active participation in the social security system for the entire period of work a condition for the renewal of the work permit.

According to the study, workers benefiting from the social security system will be paid in one time once leaving work, which will not burden the Social Security Investment Fund.

The study showed that registering domestic workers in social security will benefit the financial situation of the Fund, indicating that the insurance revenues of 50,000 domestic workers in Jordan (according to official data), will reach, within five years, about 140 million Jordanian dinars, compared to insurance expenses estimated for the same period of 70 million Jordanian dinars.
