Earlier this week, workers of BCTC, which operates the container terminal at the Port of Beirut, resumed work after reaching a verbal agreement on their demands.
500 workers have launched a strike since August 2, to demand a salary increase due to the economic crisis the country is witnessing.
The strike was suspended after a verbal agreement has been concluded between the temporary committee for port management and investment, the company’s board of directors, and workers’ representatives. The administrative parties pledged to pay $100 in cash at the beginning of each month, in addition to $50 in the middle of the month for five months.
However, the workers questioned these promises because they are only verbal. They threatened to resume their strike in case the agreements will not be respected.
