Libya: Benghazi port workers protest

On Wednesday, July 28, 2021, the workers’ syndicate in the Libyan Ports Company organized a protest in the port of Benghazi, expressing their rejection of the decision to return the port administration to Misurata.

The protesters issued a statement confirming their adherence to the current administration of the port and their determination to keep all their rights. The protestors were subject to violations of their rights including not receiving their salaries and social insurance.

The President of the National Trade Unions’ Federation (NTUF) and the Captain of Ports and Seafarers in Libya mentioned that the workers’ rights will be respected.

It is worth noting that the port of Benghazi became a free and transit zone for Africa after a decision issued by the Libyan Ministry of Economy.
