In mid-June, the Philippines dispatched the Philippine Assistant President for Foreign Affairs to Saudi Arabia to deliver a message to the Saudi King and to meet with a number of officials in the Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development, and the National Committee to Combat Human Trafficking.
The visit aims to supervise the repatriation of Filipino workers in Saudi Arabia affected by COVID-19. The Philippines lifted the travel ban imposed on its citizens working in Saudi Arabia last May.
It is worth noting that more than one million Filipinos work in Saudi Arabia. Their remittances amounted to about $1.8 billion in 2020.
