The decisions of Saudi Arabia to expel Yemeni migrant workers from its southern governorates initiated anger in Yemen.
Arab media websites reported that “all members of the Yemeni labour force who work officially in the regions of Aseer, Al Bahah, Najran, to end their work within three months, and cancel their rental contracts.”
The Yemen News Agency SABA quoted Yemeni academic sources who mentioned that Najran University expelled 106 university professors in the past few days and that Saudi hospitals cancelled their new contracts with Yemeni doctors and prevented the renewal of the contracts and residencies of old doctors.
Institutions in other sectors have also notified their Yemeni employees that their contracts have expired and asked them to leave the country.
It is worth noting that there are about 3 million Yemeni migrants in Saudi Arabia. Their remittances are vital for the economy of Yemen, which may cause, as some analysts argue, an economic crisis.
