Around 11,000 families in the Jordan Valley depend on agriculture to support themselves. The agricultural sector employs many local women who have no other professional alternatives. Although it is a seasonal job and does not offer any social protection to the workers, women in the Jordan Valley need their jobs for themselves and their families.
Due to the heat wave, women were prevented from working in the farms and have been replaced by men. Therefore, they will have to wait for the lemon season or the end of the heat to resume their work.
Several appeals have been made to find an alternative for these workers and to integrate them in the social protection system.
