On the occasion of the second anniversary of the ILO Convention No. 190 on combating violence and harassment in the world of work, ILO launched a campaign entitled “Towards a safe and non-violent work environment,” on June 21, in cooperation with the UN Women, the General Federation of Jordanian Trade Unions (GFJTU), and the Jordan National Commission for Women.
In this context, the GFJTU called, in a press statement, for the government to ratify Convention No. 190 on eliminating violence and harassment in the workplace, stressing its role in addressing the issue of violence in the work environment and providing a safe work environment for both sexes.
The head of the federation stressed on the trade unions’ commitment to creating a safe work environment for women that suits their needs. They aim to include the issue of violence against women in the collective work agreements it concludes with employers.
He stated that the unions of the food and textile industries signed collective work contracts that fight violence, harassment, and discrimination.
