In a press statement, the head of the General Federation of Jordanian Trade Unions (GFJTU) denied the amendments to the Social Security Law that require raising the early retirement age or reconsidering the equation for its calculation. He stated that the council discussed the results of the World Bank’s study on the future of the Social Security Corporation and its savings.
The GFJTU President stated that any amendments to the Social Security Law considered by the Board of Directors, which includes the three parties, must be in accordance with a comprehensive view of the reality of the labour market and must consider the interest of the worker and ensure that their rights are not violated.
He, also, noted that there is no need to change the current retirement age, adding that improving the work environment, enhancing decent work conditions, raising wages, and ensuring job security would make workers stick to their jobs and not resort to early retirement.
