Jordan: The civil society launches a campaign to combat human trafficking

The Social Protection Observatory at Tamkeen for Legal Aid and Human Rights is organizing a one month campaign on human trafficking in Jordan. On the occasion of the World Day Against Trafficking in Persons (June 30), the observatory clarified that Jordan is a transit country for human trafficking of adults and children for the purpose of forced labour. Migrants, especially women, make the majority of the victims.

It is worth noting that Tamkeen recently published a study entitled “Under the Microscope: Analysis on Human Trafficking Cases in Jordan,” which stated that in the last ten years, Jordanian courts examined 257 human trafficking cases, which makes an average of 25.7 cases a year.

The study called for more efficiency in protecting the victims from human trafficking, particularly by housing victims as soon as they are noticed, not limiting the housing duration to two months, and giving the victims enough time for physical and psychological recovery and rehabilitation and integration.
