Social media platforms in Iraq reported the incident of a deceased young Iraqi in one of the sidewalks that daily-wage workers gather in to look for work in Baghdad.
The conditions of daily-wage workers are getting worse during the heat and the propagation of COVID-19. However, these workers risk their lives for work that lacks appropriate health conditions.
In this regard, an Iraqi social researcher confirmed the absence of protection for daily-wage workers in Iraq. He added that they are exposed to risky and even fatal work, particularly in the construction sector. They are rarely compensated due to the absence of regulations.
