The Sudanese Professionals Association and several committees of trade unions from various professional sectors announced in a joint statement their refusal to recognize the Trade Unions Law 2021 issued by the Ministry of Labour and approved by the Council of Ministers on June 20.
The unions considered that this law weakens the trade unions’ role and expressed their adherence to the Unified Trade Union Law of 2020 based on category.
It is worth noting that the executive offices and union councils were dissolved in December 2019 according to the decision of the “Committee for Dismantling the System 30-06-1989, Combating Corruption and Recovering Funds.” The property of the trade unions and the employers’ union was confiscated. Committees were appointed to run the affairs of trade unions, professional federations, and the employers’ federation and to conduct their necessary work.
