Morocco: Moroccan Seasonal Workers in Spain will be Repatriated

The Andalusian Association of Berries and the Union of Farmers and Livestock Breeders have announced, in two separate statements, that a solution has been reached regarding the repatriation of 170 Moroccan seasonal workers to their country. The organizations explained that these women need to return for humanitarian reasons, such as illness or the death of a family member, or an advanced state of pregnancy or childbirth.

The strawberry field workers in Huelva were blocked in Spain and could return to their country due to the closure of borders and the suspension of mobility due to COVID-19. Reaching an agreement was thanks to negotiations with the Spanish government, the Moroccan consulate, and pressure by organizations, according to the two statements.

The Union of Farmers and Livestock Breeders in Huelva stated that the workers will return to Morocco by ferry from the port of Algeciras to of Tangier Med. The will have the COVID-19 test in the 17th and 18th of May.
