The Director of ITU the Regional office for Arab States, ILO stated that the policies protecting families that initially target the poorest ones “will not be a sustainable approach.” Therefore, Lebanon needs to establish sustainable social protection.
The statement added that the report estimates that transferring about a quarter to a third of the resources currently allocated to support prices to social protection, will be sufficient to lay firm grounds for the a sustainable social protection, which will contribute effectively to compensating for the negative effects of lifting subsidies.
