A report done by the Migration Research Centre at the Turkish German university has shown that 30% of Syrian workers lost their jobs in Turkey due to COVID-19. The number of Syrian workers in Turkey is about 700,000 out of the total number of Syrians in Turkey, which is about 3,006,000 people.
The Research Centre explained that the measures taken to confront the pandemic affected businesses and blocked industry, tourism, and services sectors in particular. He noted that Syrian workers were the most affected by the repercussions of the repeated closures in these sectors.
The survey of the Research Centre showed that the cost of living for a Syrian family in Istanbul is not less than 5,000 pounds, while the wage of a Syrian worker ranges between 1,800 and 2,500 Turkish liras.
