UNICEF revealed that, during the past week, the Libyan authorities arrested 125 migrant children on their way to Europe and that they were taken to detention centres.
The organization stated that among the detained migrant children, 114 were underage, who were unaccompanied by any of their relatives.
UNICEF explained that most of the migrant children who are rescued in Libya are transferred to overcrowded detention centres and live in difficult conditions, with little or no access to water or health services. There are about 1,100 children in detention centres, according to the organization.
UNICEF called on the Libyan authorities to release all these children and end their detention.
