Mauritania: Trade Unions Call for Dialogue and Negotiation

On the occasion of International Workers’ Day, Mauritanian trade unions were gathered for dialogue and negotiation with the authorities in order to improve the workers’ conditions.

The Free Confederation of Mauritanian Workers (CLTM) and the General Confederation of Mauritanian Workers (CGTM), in a statement on the occasion of International Workers’ Day, expressed their refusal to stop negotiations. The statement called on the government to resume it and include trade unions in the general affairs of the country.

On this occasion, CGTM called for negotiations to evaluate wage policy and social concessions with trade unions that represent workers. The trade union, also, called for revising the Labour Law, the Social Security Law, the Public Service Law, and the Law of the Sea.

The syndical coordination committee for Mauritanian workers called for fighting corruption in order to establish social justice and equality. The committee called on the authorities to review the legal and regulatory texts on employment.

The General Union of Labour and Health praised its achievements for the benefit of health workers during the past two years and called for a salary increase and the disbursement of Covid-19 bonus.
