Jordan: The Workers’ House Report Shows Legal Loopholes in Occupational Health and Safety

The Annual Report of the Workers’ House, issued on the occasion of the World Day for Safety and Health at Work, showed legislative and regulatory gaps in occupational safety and health.

This report stated that the coverage and protection system in the Labour and Social Security Law does not cover all the categories of workers, especially those in the informal economy sector. He noted that the legislations did neither conform to flexible and remote work, nor did they establish legal provisions to regulate the relationship between the worker and the employer in the flexible work system.

The report showed that there are no regulations concerning the employer’s responsibility in providing decent and safe working conditions or concerning his/her responsibility towards work accidents where work takes place outside the official work place.

The report noted that the Labour Law amendments of 2019 did not include these points about occupational health and safety in the flexible work system.
