Iraq: Strike of Maritime Crews Causes Paralysis at Ports

The maritime crews of Umm Qasr, Khor Al Zubair, and the oil ports decided to go on strike. According to a statement issued by the maritime crews, this strike was decided due to the indifference of the port company’s administration to their demands.

The marine crews organized several protests and the last one took place on April 20 in order to make their demands heard but to no avail.

The protestors demanded the abolition of joint employment altogether and including all marine cadres in extra-working hours. The protestors stated they will continue their strike until their demands are met and guaranteed.

This strike caused the port of Umm Qasr, Al Khor and oil ports to completely stop working and paralysing the movement of ships leaving and coming to and from Iraq.
