The Lebanese government decided to start laying down an unemployment insurance system in cooperation with the International Labour Organization (ILO).
In this regard, a consultative meeting took place on April 22nd, attended by the General Director of the National Social Security Fund, the President of the General Labour Union, the representative of the Board of Guarantee, representatives of the Chamber of Industry and Commerce, the Industrialists Association, and representatives of the Ministry of Labour. The meeting was, also, attended by experts from the International Labour Organization.
The Minister of Labour stated that this system aims to protect workers when they lose their jobs and to enable them to find new jobs.
The minister explained that this system is short-term and based on a monthly income and will provide health insurance.
