The General Union of Algerian Workers (UGTA) urges the need for a new and serious social dialogue that brings together all the active parties in society in order to solve the social and economic crises caused by COVID-19.
This call came in a statement issued by UGTA on the occasion of International Workers’ Day on the 1st of May 2021.
The trade union sheds light on work problems during the pandemic—especially concerning sources of income for workers and work permanence.
UGTA expressed its readiness to review its synodical work and its priorities, stressing that one of its priorities is preserving of jobs and economic institutions as well as encouraging investment, especially the creation of wealth and job opportunities.
In this regard, UGTA announced that the trade union “is in line with the demands of workers for the improvement of purchasing power, the achievement of social justice, the right to decent work and to retirement, which are all open issues.”
