Tunisia: Engineers Continue their Strike

The Dean of Tunisian Engineers stated that the engineers’ open strike will continue until the agreement with the Presidency of the Government to generalize the special grant for all the engineers of public institutions and establishments without exception, formally and in writing.

The same source stated that the Presidency of the Government has begun to write to the institutions and establishments to disburse the grant. He added that the plenary session that took place on April 26 in the Assembly of the Representatives of the People, for dialogue with the Dean of Engineers, helped resolving the conflict.

It is worth noting that the special grant, which engineers in civil services received in 2017, and which ranged between 450 and 750 dinars, did not include the engineers of public institutions and facilities such as the Tunisian Electricity and Gas Company, the National Company for the Exploitation and Distribution of Water, National Sanitation Utility, and the Industrial Real Estate Agency.

The engineers of public institutions and establishments went on strike throughout the country, since April 5, 2021. It was preceded by a five-day strike from March 29 to April 2, 2021.
