On April 30th, the International Organization for Migration (IOM) released the first quarterly report for the year 2021.
The report announced that the flow of Sub-Saharan African migrants to Yemen has decreased during the first four months of the year 2021 compared to the same period in previous years. Border restrictions have increased due to the measures taken after COVID-19.
The report indicated that 5,113 African immigrants arrived in Yemen in the first quarter of this year compared to 27,948 immigrants in the same period of the year 2020.
Yemen is considered a destination for migrants from the countries of the Horn of Africa, especially Ethiopia and Somalia, to enter the Gulf countries particularly Saudi Arabia.
IOM, also, noted that migrants are witnessing difficult conditions in Yemen and are lacking basic life necessities such as shelter and food.
