Lebanon: Protestors of the Deir Ammar Power Plant are Threatened with not Receiving their Salaries

Workers of the Deir Ammar Power Plant of the PrimeSouth company may not receive their salaries, as stated in a letter from the company’s administration, if they do not go back to work.

The workers in the Deir Ammar power plant have been on strike for nearly three weeks with the participation of maintenance workers and a number of engineers.

The protestors are demanding an increase in their wages, having formal work contracts, and the termination of the status of daily-wage workers they have had for years. With these contracts, workers will get financial compensation upon the termination of their service with the company.

Several meetings were held for this purpose with the company’s administration but to no avail.

The factory explained its position by the numerous financial losses caused by production costs and unpaid bills from Electricité du Liban (EDL).
