The Palestinian General Federation of Trade Unions announced that the Israeli occupation had received “in advance” the price of COVID-19 vaccination that Palestinian workers received during the last period. The federation stated that Israel took from every Palestinian working in the 1948 occupied territories of Palestine an amount of 93 shekels (33 dollars) per month as health insurance fees, as well as an extra amount as a sickness fund.
A Palestinian trade union source stated that there are huge sums of money owed to Palestinian workers by the occupation authorities, from which nothing has been transferred, neither to the workers nor to the Palestinian authorities. The same source added that vaccination is not a favour from Israel, but rather a right of Palestinian workers. According to the Geneva Conventions, the Israeli authorities are to provide the vaccine, not only to the workers, but to all Palestinians.
A spokesperson for the Palestinian Ministry of Health stated that Palestinian medical and health teams vaccinated Palestinian workers at the Israeli checkpoints upon their entrance to the 1948 occupied territories. The same source indicated that 105,000 workers received the vaccine.
