A work session held with the administration of the Maghrebean Society for Mechanical Industries, ISUZU on April 1st, 2021, and the main trade union of the company’s workers, was concluded with an agreement to end the sit-in and resume work on April 2nd, according to what has been declared by the governor of Kairouan. The agreement also included financial compensation for the 26 dismissed workers.
500 workers started a sit-in since February 10th to protest against the dismissal of 26 workers who were accused of stealing a truck.
The protestors had many rights including the freedom to unionize, a salary increase they have been demanding for five years, and granting those who worked there for more than 3 months immediate social security and a certificate of employment.
