The National Agency for the Promotion of Employment and Competencies (ANAPEC) organized a workshop, in coordination with the International Organization for Migration (IOM), on April 1st, 2021, in Rabat, to discuss the status of Moroccan women who came back from in the Spanish strawberry fields.
In order to empower these workers to become entrepreneurs and achieve autonomy, the agency is working in coordination with IMO in accompanying them after their return to Morocco.
In his opening speech to the workshop, the Agency’s Director General stated that the aim of the strategic partnership between ANAPEC and IOM is to empower Moroccan women, especially those working in the Spanish strawberry fields, to become familiar with entrepreneurship.
He added that the agency is working with other partners to provide a model for the integration of seasonal women workers into an economic cycle that complements their period of work in the Spanish strawberry fields. He explained that the agency is working to integrate these workers into the Moroccan economic environment through self-employment to avoid the gap they may go through.
The director of IOM Morocco urged encouraging seasonal legal migration to the Spanish strawberry fields. The latter, she explained, provides women with experience. She claimed that there are good opportunities to encourage immigration of female workers, improve their income, and strengthen strategic relations between Morocco and Spain.
