On the 66th anniversary of its founding on March 20, the Moroccan Workers’ Union (UMT) announced mobilizating workers “in preparation for responding to the fierce attack against the Moroccan working class, its rights, freedoms, and dignity, with all legitimate means of struggle.”
Commenting on the deteriorating economic and social situation in Morocco, the UMT denounces the government’s indifference to employers’ violations of the labour code and oppressing workers. The UMT condemned the arbitrary expulsion of workers, judicial prosecutions, arrests, and restrictions on union work.
The Labour Union, also, denounced the government’s inability to impose abiding by social laws, its indifference to the deliberate closings of factories, and the displacement of workers as a result of the rents economy.
The Union renewed its commitment to the right to strike. It demanded the abolition of Article 210 of the Criminal Code that tries syndicalists and workers.
