Tunisia: Construction Workers Protest due to the Indifference towards Previous Agreements

A source from the regional coordinators of construction workers expressed their dissatisfaction with the failure to apply the agreement concluded between the government and the UGTT in October 2020.

The same source stated that the government’s indifference led construction workers to return to protest by carrying out a rally in front of the Prime Minister’s Office on March 11th.

The same source explained that the government did not implement the agreement that includes 31,000 workers, as well as settling their situation at the beginning of the year 2021. It failed to post the agreement in the official gazette of Tunisia and include allocations of construction workers in the budget of 2021.

The Regional Coordination Council of Construction Workers denounced using the cause for political purposes. He called for posting the agreement in the official gazette as well as posting the lists of those involved in the agreement and the payment of the dues of those concerned with the voluntary exit.
