The General Federation of Oman workers (GFOW) announced in its 2020 annual report that the number of trade unions in Oman reached 293, 20 of them were created in 2020.
GFOW explained that the trade and industry sector, the oil and gas sector, real estate and construction sector, transport, communications, sales and distribution, the automobile sector, education, ports, health, press, publishing, insurance, and services are the sectors with new trade unions.
GFOW noted that the legal context for trade union work provided a legislative environment enabling workers to form trade unions to defend their rights and protect their interests.
The Federation confirmed that during the pandemic, it was able to continue doing its activities online and by adopting health protocols.
