Saudi Arabia Bans the use of Offensive Language to Domestic Workers

Saudi authorities have adopted new legal measures on the dignity of workers. The Saudi Ministry of Commerce issued a legal text that prohibits the use of insulting words or offensive language to domestic workers and their dignity.

According to these new legal measures, it is forbidden to use phrases such as “for sale”, “to buy”, or “to assign.” The latter are to be replaced with “transfer of services.” It is also forbidden to describe domestic workers as a maids or servants.

The new legal measures prohibit posting personal photos, identity cards, residency, or any personal data of migrant workers, domestic workers, and the like in advertisements for the “transfer of services”.
