Libya: Liberation of 120 Migrants held by Human Traffickers

During an operation carried out on Wednesday, March 10th, the Libyan army managed to liberate 120 migrants, most of them Egyptians, who were being held by human traffickers in the town of Bani Walid in western Libya.

A Libyan military source stated that these immigrants, according to what they said, were being held as hostages and were tortured.

Libya is a major transit point for migrants fleeing crises and turmoil in Africa and the Middle East seeking to reach Europe. However, many of them find themselves blocked in Libya in poor conditions and victims of smuggling and human trafficking.
