Tunisia: Blocking of Iron Transportation due to Continued Strikes

The strike, carried out by railway workers and employees, for a three days period since March 23, has blocked the railways traffic in all regions of the country.

The strike was decided to take place on April 7, 2021. However, the administration’s failure to pay the increase in wages starting from March as promised and to incorporate 78 contractual workers in the company led the workers to prolongate the strike.

The company’s spokesperson claimed that the strike was sudden. He added that it was not possible to disburse the salary raise since it needs approval by the prime minister first, which did not take place yet. He, also, stated that the administration is having negotiations with the union about resuming work.
