Berlin: International Amnesty calls for an Independent Investigation in the Deaths of Migrant Workers in Qatar

It has been announced that Amnesty International in Berlin has called for an independent investigation in the deaths of a large number of migrant workers in Qatar. The organization urges staring an investigation in the matter after the publication of a newspaper article in the Guardian that, based on a governmental source, states that around 6,500 migrant workers died in Qatar since it has been entitled to organize the World Football Championship in 2010.  The newspaper stated that most of these deaths were described as natural.

The organization stated that measures taken by Qatar were inefficient to protect migrant workers.

Qatar claims that the rate of deaths is within the ordinary. Accusing the British newspaper of fake news, a Qatari source mentioned that the International Labour Organization (ILO) described the Qatari measures in the field as a big step forward.

The Guardian mentioned that the causes of deaths can be falling from high altitudes, suffocation, or even natural. The natural deaths of migrant workers in Qatar is usually caused by heart attacks or respiratory failure due to the high temperatures. However, these results are not based on autopsy.
